Issam began his career in 1973 as an instructor of accounting at Texas Tech University. After successfully completing the Ph.D. degree requirements in 1977, he joined The University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee as an Assistant Professor of Accounting. In a short period of time, he was nominated by the faculty to be their representative in the Research Committee of UW – Milwaukee.
He later came to Saudi Arabia to develop and implement a consolidation plan for 44 companies. He worked during that period to establish Price Waterhouse office in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. After succeeding in this mission, he joined the Saudi American Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation to organize and develop accounting and auditing standards for the government organizations in Saudi Arabia. He drafted the “Comprehensive Auditing Standards” in Arabic & English which were adopted officially by the General Auditing Bureau of Saudi Arabia.
In 1986 he was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer in charge of a major 10 million dollar project - The Private Development Project - in Jordan to develop accounting, tourism, industrial engineering and computer industry in Jordan. He joined Ernst & Young as a partner, located in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in 1990.
Since 1995, Issam joined the Naghi family as Executive Vice President located in Jeddah. The major activities of the family include distribution network for international food products such as Mars, Galaxy, Klim & California Gardens; for automotive vehicles such as BMW and Hyundai; for electronics such as LG and Philips and for Medical equipments and many others.
In addition to all of the above, Issam had written many articles in English and authored many books in Arabic. He was recognized as an international accounting expert and as such represented Saudi Arabia in many international conferences with the International Organization of Superior Auditing Institutions and the United Nations. He was the leading expert in drafting the auditing standards for INTOSAI which were lately translated to five different languages from the original English. Additionally he made many professional presentations in Washington D.C, Manila, Philippines & Sydney, Australia. Among many other training activities and events, he was selected with two distinguished international experts to train bank loan officers of the World Bank in Washington D.C.
Issam has been a member of many professional organizations, the most distinguished membership was to be a member of the Board of the Government Auditing Standards Committee of INTOSAI since inception and until 1990.
Issam graduated with honor from University of Jordan in Amman; he obtained his MBA from Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg and his Ph.D. in Accounting and Management Information System from Texas Tech University, Lubbock. He passed the Certified Public Accounting exam in 1977 and is licensed as a public accountant in the State of Wisconsin.
